Wood Rot Repair
Rotted wood, replaced before the paint goes on.
A window sill you can push a thumb into. Fascia that crumbles when the gutter comes off. We cut the rot out, put in new primed wood, and paint the house so the repair disappears. One crew and one estimate, and you pay nothing until the job is complete.

Why homeowners choose Catalyst for wood rot repair
Found on the estimate, not on day three
We check for rot on every exterior estimate at no charge: window sills, the bottoms of trim and corner boards, fascia behind the gutters, garage door jambs, the chimney chase. What we find goes on the estimate before you sign it.
Replaced, never painted over
Rotted boards come out and new primed wood goes in. Paint over soft wood looks fine for a season. The water underneath freezes over the winter, and by April the board is worse and the paint is off.
Primed and caulked before color
New wood gets primed on every face we can reach, and the seams and nail holes get caulked. That is where the water got in the first time.
One crew, one warranty
The carpentry and the paint are the same job under the same 5-year written warranty. There is no second contractor to schedule.

How wood rot repair works
Wash, then wait
We power wash the house, often on a Saturday, and come back a day or two later to start. Siding that feels dry can still be wet underneath, and paint over wet wood fails early no matter what's in the can. Nobody puts the drying gap on a bid. We do.
Replace and prime
The soft wood comes out back to sound material. New boards go in primed, and the joints and nail holes get caulked the same day so the repair never sits bare.
Paint the house
The new wood gets painted with everything else, so there is no patch to see. Most full exteriors take four to seven days. We tell you before we start if yours needs more, and we clean up after ourselves.
What homeowners say about our wood rot repair
Catalyst Painting repaired wood rot and painted our house that was built in the 90s. They fixed the wood rot on our chimney, underneath the window, and some of the trim. They did a great job and communicated with us throughout the process.
We had wood rot around in multiple locations on the exterior of our home, we had the exterior painted and doors. The paint job done by the crew exceeded our expectations. Crew was excellent, very detailed work, and we highly recommend them. Catalyst Painting is the company we chose to make our home look beautiful, and we will recommend Catalyst Painting to anyone needed their house painted.
The team did an amazing job on our house. They did very though prep work by replacing boards, and lots of caulking and sealing. The paint looks amazing and have been great with follow up questions and final walk through. Highly recommended!!!!
Extremely happy with our paint job. We had an enormous amount of wood rot and needed a new paint job for some time. The team was very professional and worked extremely hard. It’s like we have a new house!
Wood Rot Repair questions, answered straight
How do I know if my house has wood rot?
Look where water runs: the bottom few inches of trim and corner boards, window sills, fascia behind a gutter, the trim around the garage door, and the chimney chase. Rot looks dark or crumbly, and the paint on it bubbles. Press a screwdriver into the board. If it sinks in, it's rot. We check all of this on every exterior estimate at no charge.
Can't you just paint over it?
You can, and it will look fine until spring. Rot holds water. Kansas City winters freeze and thaw that water a few dozen times. The board swells and splits, and the paint comes off with it. A small repair in October is a bigger one by April. We replace the wood first so the paint has something solid to protect.
Do you figure out where the water came from?
We look. When we can see it (a failed caulk joint, or a gutter dumping on one corner) we tell you and fix what's in our scope. Sometimes the source isn't visible from the outside. We'll tell you that too, and we won't guess.
What does wood rot repair cost?
It depends on how much comes out. A few sills and trim boards are a small line on an exterior estimate; a chimney chase or a run of siding is its own line. Every piece we can see is on the estimate before you sign. Damage that only shows once old material comes off is listed on the estimate as discoverables upon exposure, and we call you before touching anything beyond the scope.
Will the repair show?
No. The new board goes in primed and is painted with the rest of the house. The patch you can spot from the street is the one that was painted by itself.
Does the warranty cover the carpentry?
Yes. The repair and the paint are one job under our 5-year written warranty. If the workmanship fails (peeling or blistering from prep or application), we come back and make it right.
